1014 / Corte Pequena (3 drawings) / Mértola // Portugal
Corte Pequena is a tiny little village near Mértola, that caught my attention for the humble and organic architecture of its dwellings. They were so simple, based on secular constructive traditions, thought totally adapted to the site and climatic conditions; they couldn’t be more efficient!
1013 / Adega Velha / Mourão // Portugal
My Friend Rui Cunha, invited me to a drawing workshop (desenho em viagem) in the south of Portugal, that turned out to combine (very well) gastronomy and sketches.
In the first morning, after a couple of hours in Castro Verde( http://wp.me/pLtki-1HO) , crossing some nice buildings, we ended up in a tavern, drinking wine and eating their specialty: goatling head! (http://wp.me/pLtki-1AT)
The periplus concluded three days after, in another famous tavern (where else?!) called “Adega Velha”. At nine o’clock in the morning we were already drinking red wine and drawing! No, I was not drunk since I used some of the wine to paint…
The innkeeper offered us more wine, suggesting tough I should not carry my drawing away, arguing it should be exposed at the tavern along with all the other drawings…
So, my sketch ended up hanged behind the bar, waiting for better days, until, as promised, the proper frame arrives.
Drawing doesn’t make us richer, but at least, it can make us happier…
Fui convidado, pelo meu colega Rui Cunha, a um workshop de desenho (Desenho em Viagem), no sul de Portugal, que acabou por combinar (muito bem) gastronomia e desenho.
Na primeira manhã, depois de um par de horas em Castro Verde (http://wp.me/pLtki-1HO), depois da visita a alguns edifícios interessantes, acabamos numa taberna, rodeados de vinho, que acompanhava a especialidade da casa: cabeça de borrego assada em forno de lenha! (http://wp.me/pLtki-1AT)
O périplo concluiu 3 dias depois , noutra famosa taberna (pois claro!) chamada “Adega Velha”. Às nove horas da manhã estávamos já a desenhar, e de copo na mão! Evitei chegar ao estado de embriaguês, já que parte do vinho foi usada para colorear alguns elementos da cena retratada.
O taberneiro ofereceu-nos uma segunda rodada, sugerindo que o desenho não deveria viajar para o Norte, argumentando que devería ser exposto na taberna junto com todos os outros desenhos… Assim, o meu desenho acabou pendurado por trás do balcão, à espera de melhores dias, até que, como prometido, chegue a moldura adequada.
O Desenho não nos fará mais ricos, mas, pelo menos, pode tornar-nos mais felizes…

In the first morning, after a couple of hours in Castro Verde, crossing some nice buildings, we ended up in this tavern, drinking wine and eating their specialty: goatling head!
Here is a good example of combining the knife (the unique and fundamental tool to eat this head) with watercolors!
